Her life had been rather— lonely, before. The only other who paid her any mind was Hana, and the same company got boring after a while, no matter how much Mai loved her sister. Their parents were decidedly involved most days, and what attention they did receive came in the form of corrections or meaningless gifts neither girl truly wanted.

So she enjoyed the attention Lee gave her, altruistic and strong. But there was more to it than simply wanting to be wanted. He was funny, smart— though an idiot at the same time, and had a spirit she envied.

He was really— something. Whatever the word was, if it existed, Mai didn’t know it.

“I suppose there could be worse things,” Mai droned out, standing at the slight tug on her waist. “Truly, anything is better than sticking around all of these insufferable people.”

It was the same for Lee and Zuko in a way. They didn’t really have many friends their own age aside from each other, so that’s just how it’d always been for them. They’d always stuck together, and that’s why they basically did the same thing every year at Hogwarts. Stuck to each other like glue.

Lee just chuckled once at Mai’s voiced reluctance yet lack of an argument about going outside. At least they could leave without any resistance and were outside in a matter of a minute. Then his hand could settle more definitively around her waist.

"So you really wanted to get out of the Great Hall that bad, huh?”

“Then give me back the book, I’m not letting McGonagal come by again and see we haven’t transfigured this lamp yet. I don’t feel like getting detention.”

Sad [Starter Sentences]

Well that was an easy way to surprise Lee. This was the second time over the summer vacation they’d seen each other, and it’d been a few odd months since they began dating.

The pair had been comfortably situated on Mai’s bed, the both of them dozing off after a morning walking around Diagon Alley, restocking what few school supplies they needed and getting lunch while they were out. Lee had been close to falling asleep, until he heard Mai say what she did. That got his eyes open real fast just out of surprise.

image

“What brought that on?”

Not that he was opposed to what she said on the contrary, she got his heartbeat going a few paces faster than it’d been a moment ago, but he hadn’t expected her to say it out of the blue like this. He’d sit up if she sat up, but for the moment his head had merely gotten picked up and Lee was staring at his girlfriend a bit incredulously.

Rumor has it you got a 2 inch wand.

Holds up wand.

“Does that look two inches to you?”

belovedbetrayal:

“Really, Lee, I’m flattered.” Her voice is high, each word said with an extra breath, mimicking the way she had heard her mother speak so many times. A small grin cracked her stone like features as she bumped his shoulder, adding hints of her jest.

“You came all this way, for me.”

“Well there’s food down here anyway, so–.”

He couldn’t tell if she was being sarcastic at not saying she was flattered, the unusual tone of voice from her was a bit hard to discern, but the smile was saying enough in its own right. In any case, she got a small smile right back as the joined the crowd of students filing in for breakfast.
