She sits beside him, quickly making herself comfortable and picking the food of his plate, having had left hers behind at the Slytherin table.
”Hmph, you know what they say about hope—…”
She pauses, a small smirking turning the corner of her lip up as she melted into his side. “It breeds eternal misery.”
Good thing there was plenty of food around, he could just as easily pick at something else around them so she wouldn’t feel bad about grabbing something from his plate.
“Only if you let it disappoint you, then maybe.”
Lee half-smiled as she leaned into him and an arm went around her waist after she did. Naturally they were getting some disapproving inquisitive looks from the other Gryffindor’s around them, the age old rivalry between the two Houses was showing as they witnessed the two getting comfortable how they were.
She’s being illogical, sure, but it doesn’t really matter to her. Being raised in a male dominated home, she learned to believe she was meant to wait around for the boy to come save her—
that is, until she remember how stupid boys are, and took matters into her own hands.
He’d yet to really learn about Mai’s home life beyond that she had a twin sister and an infant brother. Unlike him and Zuko who’d been rather independent (or rather simply dependent on one another), he hadn’t been taught that same lesson to wait for someone else to solve your problems.
“Sorry, guess I just wanted to see if you’d come over here for a change.”
Cue Lee moving over a little so she has more room to sit down beside him.
And Mai wasn’t happy about it. Her lips turned down in a firm pout, she made her way to the empty seat beside him while he ate in the Great Hall— enough people were used to the crossing of houses by now, and the looks never meant much to her anyways.
”You were supposed to come sit with me.” “Jerk-ass.”
It was always him going over to Slytherin’s table to sit with Mai for a little bit during lunch, but on the off days that he sat over at Gryffindor’s table to sit with Zuko or over to Hufflepuff’s to sit with Asami, she stayed put where she was. Lee wasn’t sure if that was a good or a bad thing, so the days between when he last sat with her and when he sat somewhere else increased by a few days; he was curious if she’d come over on her own.
Which apparently she would eventually, to chastise him though.
“You could’ve sat over here too, I don’t go to the library or anything for dinner.”
Too bad, he’s holding her hand all the way until they get to her Potions class. Of course even when they get there and he needs to let go because he has Divination, he doesn’t really want to.
“If you’re late to class, don’t blame me."
She doesn’t let go, just starts to pull him forward into her class. If he wants to risk it, it’s on him.
”… … Okay, okay.“
He’s sneaking a kiss before he lets go and starts turning back to where he needs to go.
… … Okay fine. He’s not in a mood to be arguing with her today.
He’ll take her hand then if she’s cool with that?
What does he think he’s doing?
She never agreed to this.
(but she doesn’t bother pulling away).
